PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA: “Tacet No More,” a classical music podcast series that asks the questions that need to be asked, and says the things that need to be said about classical music, released their first episode today.
Hosted by entrepreneur, youth advocate, and Principal Double Bass Joseph Conyers and citizen artist and Assistant Principal Cello Yumi Kendall, of the Philadelphia Orchestra, the new season aims to explore a different topic of obstacles and breakthroughs within the classical music sphere – from organizations working to open up pathways for Black orchestral musicians and visionaries fostering ecosystems to support arts education to young professionals charting a new course in the sector.
“With so many moving parts in the ecosystem that is the classical music industry, it is imperative we have thoughtful conversations discussing strategies on how to make the work we do better as musicians and administrators,” said Joseph Conyers, a multi-faceted 21st-century artist, co-host, and executive producer of Tacet No More. “It's exciting to share this space with my colleague, Yumi Kendall, for a second season to discuss the positive steps we can take to make our classical music world as inclusive and as safe a space for everyone - a theme throughout the whole of our second season.”
“Joe and I have enjoyed curating our second season, and we are excited to set the stage with this first episode, said Yumi Kendall, co-host, executive producer, and chamber musician who holds a master’s degree in Applied Positive Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania. “It takes courage and community to make changes, while we simultaneously recognize and appreciate the intrinsic beauty, power, and humanity of what we do as musicians in the first place. We are grateful to our listeners for sharing this journey with us.”
Episode themes of the first episode of Tacet No More include the importance of actionable change beyond just statements of support, the need for sustained advocacy, and balancing artistic excellence with accountability.
Tacet No More was created, hosted, and executive-produced by Yumi Kendall and Joseph Conyers, edited by Andrew Mellor, and managed and produced by Lindsay Sheridan. Marketing and promotion is managed by Brenda Hernández Jaimes. To listen to the show, follow on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or other podcast platforms. New episodes will be released every other Tuesday.
